Bishop Stephen Berg's statement on the Aspen Acres Fire
“The state of Colorado is currently facing multiple wildfires that are impacting communities and natural landscapes. The Aspen Acres Fire burning in the area of Our Lady of Lourdes, Beulah, and St. Aloysius, Rye, the Ferris Fire is affecting the missions and communities of Dolores and Montezuma, while the Snyder Fire is impacting areas near the Grand Junction deanery. Additionally, the Gold Mountain Fire is burning near the missions in Silverton and Lake City. During this difficult time, it is important to keep all those affected by the fires, as well as the brave firefighters working tirelessly to control them, in your thoughts and prayers.
We thank God for the firefighters and civil agencies that have responded. Please keep all those affected by the fires and the firefighters in your prayers. This is to be a trying time for them, and we will be with them in our prayers and support.”
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Stephen J. Berg

The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This weekend in The Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells us a few more parables as he teaches us not to be influenced or distracted by the evil one of this world. Our goal
is to reach the Kingdom of God and to live with him for eternity. As members of the Body of Christ, we are not of this world. In Jesus’ first parable, the householder tells
his servants not to pull the weeds because they might uproot the wheat as well. With a strong foundation, we will continue to grow and flourish in a world that is lost
and confused; a world seeking to fill a void in their lives, but they are looking in the wrong places.
Christ has asked us to show others the way. Just as we are passing through this world towards the Kingdom of God, we should be trying to show others the way to
Christ. Leading by example, we show others that we aren’t easily influenced by the ways of the world. We can also show them the love that Christ has shown us. The
evil one will try to distract us and tempt us on our journey, but we must persevere and be like the wheat at the harvest, which is bundled and kept, not like the weeds
that are bundled and burned.
Jesus showed us how to lead by example. Now it is up to us to follow his lead and do the same. We can start by living our faith as we teach our families and our
children. Then we can continue to be an example in the world as we show others the love and mercy Christ has shown us.
May we continue to avoid the distractions of this world and seek the Kingdom of God, showing others along the way the love and mercy Christ continues to show us.
Your brother in Christ,
Deacon Manny
