The Fourth Sunday of Easter
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This weekend in the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved.” As members of the Body of Christ, we are the sheep in Christ’s flock. Through Baptism, each of us has entered through his gate, and he is the gate; it is only the beginning. As we continue to follow our Good Shepherd, he will provide us with what we need and will never lead us astray. There are those in the world who would lead us astray, and this is why we need to learn the voice of the Shepherd, so when strangers try to lead us away, we will run away from them, and we will only follow and recognize the voice of the Good Shepherd who loves us and cares for us.
Jesus also told us, “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly". When we think about abundance, what comes to mind? Is it more money, more food, a bigger house, or maybe just having more stuff in general? This is what many in the world seek to obtain. When Christ told us that we would have life more abundantly, he was talking about more of his love, grace, and mercy. It’s in our nature to think more tangibly, but Christ is offering us a life full of spiritual goods that we can share with others. Isn’t that what we do when we have more than what we need? We don’t keep it for ourselves; instead, we share it with others.
As we share the love and mercy Christ gives us with others, we will notice that what we give doesn’t get smaller, but will continue to grow within us, so we can continue to share his love and mercy with everyone we meet. May we continue to
show others the way to the gate so they can also meet the Good Shepherd and be saved.
Your brother in Christ,
Deacon Manny
